About Our Job
The Denver Sheriff Department is seeking qualified applicants to join the Crisis Response Team as a Licensed Clinician. Successful candidates will be joining an experienced and dedicated team that goes above and beyond every day to provide a wide range of services to those within the Denver Sheriff’s Department care and custody. These services include providing crisis intervention to individuals with serious mental illness, conducting evidence-based groups with high-risk individuals in order to prevent future crises, assisting the deputies in the day-to-day operations of the special management units, assigning appropriate mental health alerts, managing the restrictive housing population, providing mental health training to sworn staff, and other assigned job duties.
The Crisis Response Team is seeking individuals familiar with trauma informed care, evidence-based practices, and being part of a multidisciplinary team. This position will work directly with individuals with serious mental illness in a crisis situation within a jail setting.
Candidates can expect to work a 4-day week / 10-hour day schedule at the Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center located in Downtown Denver at 490 Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80204 and / or the Denver County Jail at 10500 E. Smith Road, Denver, CO 80239.
The Crisis Response Team is a 24-hour, seven days a week operation, therefore, applicants must also be willing to work the following :
10- hour shift work
day, swing or graveyard
weekends
holidays
overtime on short notice
Job responsibilities will include :
Conducts initial clinical interviews with clients to determine risk level, assigns appropriate mental health alerts to clients with mental health needs, updates mental health alerts when needed, and documents all client interactions.
Provides on-going crisis intervention to clients and recommends and may refer clients to appropriate community-based organizations for placement and other services.
Conducts evidence-based groups to individuals in custody in order to prevent future crises from occurring.
Participates in collaboration with staff related to their interaction patterns with clients and trains sworn staff on mental health related issues.
Provides critical incident follow-up to clients and / or staff after significant incidents and recommends intervention strategies.
Meets with Supervisor
Prepares written progress notes on clients, documenting crises, contacts, interviews, and observations.
Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.
Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have :
Experience in a correctional setting, including either a jail or prison.
Experience working on a multidisciplinary team.
Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
Bilingual in Spanish.
Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position :
Education Requirement : Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Counseling, Counseling, or a closely related field
License / Certification Requirement : By position, possession of a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Licensed Addiction Counselor (ACD) under the provisions of the Colorado Revised Statutes for the State Board of Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Addiction Counselor or Social Worker Examiners
OR by position, possession of a clinical license issued by the Colorado State Board of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners such as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
OR if you hold a current, equivalent license in another state, you must obtain licensure with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) prior to the start date
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
