The Denver Public Library is looking for a Custodial Supervisor to lead and perform custodial work, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment in our libraries. They will work with custodial staff to ensure facilities are clean and up to custodial standards. This position will supervise and work with the custodial team on routine workload and special projects. Some examples of work they will supervise and perform: changing light bulbs, trim landscaping, mow grass, remove snow and ice. They will resolve problems encountered during daily operations and determine appropriate solutions. They promote teamwork, encourage regular communication and inform staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization.
About You
Our ideal candidate has a solid understanding of custodial work and will lead by example through this time of transition. In addition, they have:
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in building maintenance and custodial activities.
- Knowledge of the hazards involved and the safety practices required for custodial activities.
- Skill in basic computer operations.
- Skill in the operation and use of custodial equipment and supplies.
- Ability to respond to customer concerns and needs as needed.
- Ability to work alongside custodial staff to meet department goals and outcomes.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding position with continuous bending, kneeling, and lifting of objects that can weigh up to 25-50 pounds.
- Ability to train, motivate and supervise custodial staff.
- Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work in an environment with people from all backgrounds and age groups.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to create and maintain positive relationship with customers, staff and the community.
- Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
- Ability to pass a background check and physical once the offer of employment has been made.

- A high school diploma or equivalency.
- Three years of custodial experience.
- A current Colorado driver's license with a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years of supervisory experience
