What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The target starting hourly base pay range (not including differential pay) for this position is $28.87-$44.75, based on experience and education. Plus, we pay extra for Shift Differential Pay on Swing and Graveyard shifts. We pay 7% extra pay on top of base pay for Swing shifts, and 12% extra pay on top of base pay for Graveyard shifts.

- This position works 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Day shift, Swing shift, or graveyard shift. Shifts are either Sunday to Wednesday, or Wednesday to Saturday. Optional overtime (plenty available if you so choose!). On Call Snow/Emergency duties required (October through May).
- Please note: All employees start training on day shift (6am to 4pm). After 3–6-month training period, you will be assigned your normal shift. We primarily have swing and graveyard shifts available. Shift bids every June, based on seniority.

Responsibilities include:
- Installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC equipment and machinery including parts fabrication and inspects facilities and equipment to determine needs as permitted by the appropriate HVAC certificate
- Operates, maintains, and repairs high/low pressure steam or hot water boilers, pumping units, vacuum pumps, boiler feed pumps, and auxiliary equipment
- Operates, maintains, replaces, and repairs commercial or industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems, controls, and related equipment
- Installs, replaces, and repairs forced air heating/cooling equipment, systems, and ductwork
- Prepares working sketches and works from blueprints
- Assists in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of other skilled trades areas
- Plans and coordinates installation, maintenance, and repair work with other trades areas
- Operates and maintains tools and equipment common to various skilled trades
- Executes comprehensive HVAC maintenance and repair tasks for plant and building facilities
- Maintains records and prepares reports; Estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs
- Observes all common safety practices
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- General HVAC experience (residential or commercial)
- Building Automation System experience preferred
- Pipefitter experience helpful (knowledge/skills to repair leaks, valves, seals, pipe repair, etc)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to adapt and learn new systems
- Flexibility to work varied shifts based on business needs
- Team oriented; Willingness to help out where needed

- Ability to obtain HVAC certification by end of six-month probationary period (Refrigeration Operator, Heating and Ventilating Journeyman, Refrigeration Journeyman, Steamfitter Journeyman or Stationary Engineer certificates are accepted)
- Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
- Experience Requirement: One (1) year of journey-level HVAC experience maintaining, repairing, and constructing HVAC systems and equipment
- Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
- License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. By position, requires a valid commercial drivers license (CDL “B”) with appropriate endorsements by the end of the probation.
- Possession of CFC (Universal EPA) Chlorofluorocarbon certification by the end of the probationary period
- Possession of Heating and Ventilating Journeyman, Refrigeration Journeyman, or Steamfitter Journeyman certificate issued by the City and County of Denver by the end of the probationary period
- Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
