What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring range for this position is $73,000 – $90,000/year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule
In this position, you can expect to work from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional rotating weekend shifts and on-call availability. Hours could vary by season (i.e., snow emergencies). The home base for this position will be the Gary Price Building on the Denver Central Platte Campus (1271 W. Bayaud Ave., Denver, CO 80223).

Our Street Maintenance Division is looking for an Operations Supervisor to lead our Milling team. Street Maintenance is responsible for filling potholes, repaving streets, sweeping streets, and removing snow from public streets and alleys. The Division also manages the City’s asphalt plant, which produces asphalt for resurfacing and maintaining city streets and alleys.
Specifically, as the Operations Supervisor, you will:
  • Supervise employees involved in the milling and paving of streets and recommend process improvement and changes in practices and procedures to increase operating efficiency and expedite workflow. Find alternative ideas, new ideas, and innovations to milling.
  • Work in harmonious partnership with the other street maintenance teams to ensure successful collaborative completion of work orders and projects.
  • Plan, assign, and evaluate the work of staff members; provide technical expertise to staff, and establish unit and staff work goals and objectives.
  • Provide work instruction, assist employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments, and encourage innovation; facilitate trainings and implementation of new programs.
  • Assign and distribute work, review work for accuracy and completeness, and return assignments with recommendations for proper completion; conduct hiring interviews and select candidates for job openings.
  • Identify and help develop the mill and pave construction program. Update and maintain milling schedule and annual production.
  • Create and maintain a development and safety training schedule for both in- and off-season construction crew.
  • Manage and maintain all equipment assigned to your team.
  • Set and conduct meetings with crew, fleet, utility partners, traffic control, the paving supervisor and the manager.
  • Assist the manager in updating and defining the milling responsibilities and SOP’s.
  • Develop a six month and one year plan to be a premier milling team.
  • Create and maintain a log and schedule of silica dust prevention measures and maintenance of the mill.
  • Conduct or facilitate a weekly site safety meeting with crew and all participating site partners, implement safety standards and develop procedures to ensure compliance, and help manage and maintain a clean, clear, and safe CPC facility.
  • Conduct two monthly post-milling job evaluations and outcomes. Assist staff to achieve performance standards and identify opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards.
  • Create and maintain all Cartegraph data with 100% accuracy.
  • Help manage and maintain a clean, clear, and safe CPC facility.
  • As needed/scheduled, act as the on-call supervisor for emergency duties.

  • Practical knowledge and experience in road construction (milling/paving a plus).
  • Experience leading teams and supervising and mentoring employees.
  • Desire and/or experience driving and implementing changes and improvements.
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as Outlook, PowerPoint, and Workday.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience in the operation of equipment characterized by tandem axles or auxiliary functions OR performing semi-skilled labor in the maintenance of public grounds and/or facilities and supplemented by experience or training in equipment operation.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
