What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $62,186 - $87,000 / annually, based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to :

  • Denver's Right-of-Way Services (ROWS) manages most activities in the City's right-of-way. ROWS is responsible for determining requirements for improvements in the public right-of-way, as well as reviewing plans for regulatory compliance, issuing permits, and inspecting work in the areas of transportation, wastewater, and survey.

    The ROWS Special Projects team has an unlimited, full-time position open for a Project Inspector with experience working on large design-build infrastructure projects. The team is currently working on DOTI's 16th St Mall and East Colfax Avenue Bus Rapid Transit BRT projects. As a ROWS Project Inspector, your role will be to ensure that all infrastructure constructed within the City & County of Denver's right-of-way meets or exceeds the City's standards and specifications. As a ROWS Project Inspector, your role in ensuring the City & County of Denver's property meets proper code and construction.

    Specifically, as a Project Inspector you will :

  • Perform all aspects of inspection work overseeing a variety of construction activities for large design-build infrastructure projects from inception to completion, which includes projects involving construction, repairs, maintenance and alterations, and ensures compliance with approved plans, specifications, contract requirements, and established codes and standards.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, and regulations pertaining to compliance work and performs inspections of heavy civil infrastructure projects, which may include other components such as stormwater and wastewater construction, excavation and fill, footings and foundations, masonry, concrete and re-bar, paving and sidewalks, landscaping, surveying and land grading, and signage.
  • Report field constraints to the project engineer and acts as the communication pathway to the engineer on all field issues, documenting all discussions and resolutions.
  • Review project plans, drawing, and specifications during the design phase of the project, attend design meetings, provides input, and address compliance issues, utility conflicts, and safety issues; and, upon project completion review as-built drawing to ensure accuracy of the overall project, schedules a final walkthrough of the project, create punch list, and ensure that all work is acceptable and in compliance as part of a quality assurance and warranty review.
  • Review and approve traffic control plans and coordinate road closures with emergency services and other City departments and agencies, and ensuring safety protocols are in place and compliant with safety standards and regulations.
  • Respond to citizen complaints and inquiries regarding construction activities and provides information and updates to address issues and problems.
  • What You'll Bring

    Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics :

  • Experience inspecting and accepting infrastructure of all types including roadways, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, bike lanes, stormwater and sanitary sewer infrastructure, retaining walls, earth slopes, etc.
  • Expert communication and interpersonal skills including written and verbal, strong listening skills. maintaining calm respectful demeanor while representing the City of Denver and ability to understand all stakeholder concerns
  • Experience in non-standard situations where code requirements may conflict with the ability to understand when and how to escalate issues
  • Experience with design-build, public-private partnerships, or CDOT projects
  • Temporary Traffic Control Technician (TCT) Certification or Temporary Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certification
  • The ability to work independently with little direct oversight for extended periods; having the ability to garner a high degree of trust between owners, AHJ's, and contractors as a representative of the City & County of Denver.
  • Availability for atypical working hours - occasional nights and weekends will be required
  • Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement : Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Experience Requirement : Two (2) years of experience inspecting construction projects for adherence to project plans and specifications, or construction project management involving the oversight and inspection of construction materials, methods, and equipment.
  • Education / Experience Equivalency : One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License / Certifications : Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
