What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive pay rate to commensurate with education. The salary range for this position is $19.75-$22.32, based on education. Denver International Airport emerging talent positions are required to attend all sessions of professional development within the cohort model. You will be onboarded with a cohort of peers to begin to help you develop your network across the aviation industry.

What You’ll Do

The Ramp Tower intern will work with the Ramp Tower Leadership team to learn about the Ramp Tower Operation, including administrative tasks and hands-on experience working in the Ramp Tower. The successful candidate will attend and participate in various meetings with internal and external stakeholders to discuss the operation and potential impacts to air service, develop reports, learn how to read airline flight schedules, and work with our online Gate Management System to develop monthly aircraft parking plans. The Ramp Tower Intern will also experience our Ramp Tower Controller training program, where they will learn how to provide pushback, holding and taxi instruction to aircraft with actual time on the radio frequency with flight crews. During the course of the internship, we will also provide familiarization with DEN’s aircraft deicing operation and Irregular Operations (IROPS) plan, as well as opportunities to work on other special projects as needed.

As a Ramp Tower intern you will have the opportunity to experience :

  • Administrative and Operational aspects of the Ramp Tower Operation at DEN
  • Networking with various working groups and leadership within DEN and our Airline Partners
  • The DEN Ramp Tower Controller Training Program with time on the radio frequency providing pushback, holding, and taxi instructions to flight crews
  • Learning how to work with various aviation technology programs used by the DEN Ramp Tower includingThe aircraft gate management systemAerobahn, our flight tracking systemClosed Circuit Camera systemElectronic logbook systemPowerBIAnd many others
  • Working with other groups within DEN on special projects based on interest and operational need

Ideal Candidate Summary

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics :

  • Pursuing a degree in Airport Operations, Aviation or other related field
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Familiar with the fundamental aspects of airport and airline operations
  • Desire to learn about the Ramp Tower and Airport Operation at DEN
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement : Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in an aviation related field, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within the previous year).
  • Experience : None
  • Education and Experience Equivalency : No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
  • License / Certification Requirement : By position, may require a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

  • Location

    The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model however the ramp tower is a 24 / 7 operation, and we expect our intern to be in person at DEN for the hours they work (those hours can be flexible across the Monday through Friday work week). Employees are expected to work where needed to support business, at the Denver International Airport. We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position.

    Internship Duration and Hours :

    This is a 6-month internship with a start date of June 2nd, and a completion date of Friday, December 5, 2025 hours between 20 and 35 hours per week.

    FBI Background Check

    FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and / or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical / drug test may be required.
