What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The starting salary range for this position is $58,656 - $77,719 / year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to :

  • A guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service

  • 140 hours of PTO earned within first year 11 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday and 1 volunteer day per year

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. In this position you can expect to work on site at the Denver Post Building (101 W. Colfax Denver, CO 80201) on your in-office days.

What You'll Do

The City and County of Denver's Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the dynamic DPR Administration Division Finance Team. As a Staff Accountant, you will play a crucial role in supporting financial operations, applying the City's fiscal accountability rules, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the department's financial records. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant seeking to learn about municipal fiscal operations while contributing to the success of Colorado's largest and most vibrant parks and recreation department.

As a Staff Accountant, you can expect to :

  • Apply the City's fiscal accountability rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures to reconcile discrepancies and ensures compliance with fiscal accountability in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Perform review of expense and revenue transactions to ensure proper coding and supporting documentation in compliance with set standards
  • Perform routine and basic reconciliations, journal entries, and ledger, budget, and asset inventory maintenance
  • Reconcile point-of-sale systems to the City's financial system
  • Generate monthly reports for the department
  • Prepare and make bank deposits
  • Communicate with department heads and other personnel throughout DPR and other city Agencies
  • Assist division co-workers to complete special projects, as assigned
  • Perform other finance-related duties as assigned

    Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics :

  • 1 year of experience in accounting or administrative functions
  • A solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • Data entry skills and strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills
  • Experience with Workday, but not required
  • Ability to form strong working relationships with various stakeholders
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated experience establishing consistent standards and processes
  • Understanding of Federal, State, and Local legal requirements
  • Strong business ethical conduct and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • An enthusiasm to learn about municipal fiscal policies, procedures, and operations
  • Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement : Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Experience Requirement : None
  • Education / Experience Equivalency : No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • License / Certifications : None
