The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. Many of the Green Valley Ranch Branch customers are daily or weekly library users and we strive to connect with them on a personal level. The person in this role will use their excellent customer service skills and creativity to create positive and welcoming experiences for library customers in the ideaLAB. The ideaLAB serves customers of all ages and skill levels. The ideaLAB is busiest when school is not in session (summers, school breaks, weekends and after school hours).
DPL is hiring a Teen Tech to support and assist staff in the Green Valley Ranch Branch ideaLAB, a makerspace which offers creative tools and equipment to customers of all ages and backgrounds. The GVR Teen Tech will help staff guide customers through maker based projects and activities, with an emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). They will assist with set up and clean up of open labs and structured programs. The Teen Tech will create a positive relationship with staff and customers (children, teens, and adults), with the opportunity to undertake other projects, as interest and time permits.
About You
Our ideal candidate has :
Interest in technology, which could include : computers, music recording, coding, digital arts, video game design, 3D design and printing, laser cutting, soldering, and electronics.
Interest in making, which could include : sewing, textiles, jewelry, art, drawing, painting, and general craft.
Ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly grades K-5
Ability to work independently and collaboratively on projects in the lab.
A desire to learn, to be creative and innovative.
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum qualifications will be considered :
Must be between the ages of 14-17.
Must live, go to school, or be homeschooled in or near the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood.
Other things to know :
This position is 10 hours per week, year round. During the school year, the schedule will include some after school hours and Saturday afternoons. During the summer, the schedule will be mutually decided upon based on the needs of open lab hours. GVR open lab hours are Mondays - Fridays 3 : 30-5 : 30 p.m. or 4 : 00-6 : 00 p.m. Open lab hours are subject to change.
Denver Public Library’s ideaLABs are makerspaces : free community spaces to make things. Customers can use the tools, equipment, and supplies in the ideaLABs to produce videos, create games, sew, learn about electronics, and much more. ideaLABs provide the tools and resources needed to make all kinds of creative projects happen!
