What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $22.50- $25.50. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location
In this position you will report to the Denver Wastewater Building (2000 W. 3rd) 5 days a week. There are also various locations across the City and County of Denver where you work when needed.
What You’ll Do
Wastewater Management oversees all aspects of wastewater functions, including the construction, operation, maintenance of the City’s sanitary and storm systems, and responding to customer inquiries regarding sewage and storm drainage service charges. As a Utility Worker II on the Construction team, you will assist with general labor, safety, and related work tasks on a crew with Equipment Operators. Specifically, as a Utility Worker II you will:
Performs semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects including new and existing sanitary and storm structures, mowing, and weed whipping of grass, shoveling/raking of dirt and rock, and all general cleanup of jobsites. Making repairs in and outside sanitary and storm manholes. Making repairs in and outside storm inlets. Mixing cement for various types of work which require breaking out old concrete and installing new concrete. Assisting in raking asphalt when re-patching roads after repairs are complete.
Operates light weight equipment powered by small engines for maintenance and minor construction projects and patches asphalt and paved areas. These include jumping jack compactors, plate compactors, jackhammer pavement breakers etc.
Performs minor repairs on gardening and grounds equipment, vehicles, and machinery including repairs of sprinkler systems and may design and fabricate equipment and tools as needed
Places and removes barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirement
Performs other related duties as assigned
Participates in the snow removal program driving a tandem plow for the winter season.
What You’ll Bring
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
- Previous experience in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
- Knowledge of operating equipment and the use of small to medium hand tools.
- Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.
- Available for overtime opportunities and/or weekends
- Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!)
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education requirement: None
- Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work
- Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement
- License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
- Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL ""B"") with appropriate endorsements within six (6) months of employment and must be kept current as a condition of employment
- Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
