Position Information
There are four (4) vacancies located in Honolulu with the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, Emergency Medical Services Division. Are you tired of riding an ambulance and ready to have a "desk job" where you can still help those who need medical assistance? You can have it all by dispatching City ambulances, strategically located at 21 locations throughout Oahu, to respond to 911 emergency calls for pre-hospital emergency care. Take charge of coordinating the response of emergency ambulance units to the accident scene and coordinating emergency medical service activities involving the City ambulance program. Most importantly, stay on the telephone line with the patient or caller to provide pre-arrival life-saving instructions to the patient or caller while EMS races to the scene.
Although not required, familiarity with all areas of Oahu is highly desired to ensure appropriate resource allocation as you may be required to search and determine the correct address for the emergency scene or patient and assist EMS personnel who are unable to locate the emergency scene or patient.
Special Working Conditions: Must be able to handle tasks in rapid succession, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, communicate clearly and calmly, and make sound decisions under stressful conditions. This position may be mobilized in the event of an emergency and may require work during or following natural disasters and other major events or incidents. Will be required to work rotating shifts and rotating days off, including weekend and holiday work. Current work shifts are 12:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and satisfactory completion of a State of Hawaii Department of Health approved Emergency Medical Technician (Basic Life Support) training program.
Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your Emergency Medical Technician (Basic Life Support) training to be given credit. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1. Valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
2. Current Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certificate issued by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch, prior to completion of probation.
The above licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment. Maintenance of these licenses/certifications is a condition of employment.

EMPLOYMENT SUITABILITY:
To determine the selectee's employment suitability for the position of Emergency Medical Technician III (Communications Center Coordinator), the Department of Human Resources will review criminal convictions, dismissals from employment, and separations from military service under other than honorable convictions.
FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT: This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC). Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment within the JTMC requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. Therefore, the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
