Position Information
The Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, has three (3) vacancies for Recreation Director I located in Makiki, Diamond Head, and Kailua. Under close supervision these trainee positions will learn the basics of professional recreation work. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Learns principles and techniques in planning, organizing, instructing, and directing recreational activities such as music, dance, creative dramatics, arts and crafts, sports and fitness, games, and other selected activities.
- Assists in maintaining discipline and order at playgrounds and recreations programs.
- Learns and applies methods to plan, organize, and supervise special activities such as picnics, camps, hikes, parties, and "finale" programs.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
LICENSE / CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
Prior to completion of probation, possession of a valid:
- American Red Cross First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
- American Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and AED Certificate, to include care for choking and obstructed airway, or equivalent.
- DPR van certificate as required.
