Preserve, Protect, Inspire: Lead the Way as a Regional Park Manager

The Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for a Regional Park Manager II! Under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation District Manager II, this position plans, organizes, and directs an on-site management, operation, and maintenance of parks and recreation resources including grounds, facilities, equipment and recreation, and leisure time programs and services; and participates in the planning of park improvements in Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve and adjacent area.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Planning and organizing the parks and recreation operations and maintenance functions in a geographic area through subordinate personnel.
  • Directing, conducting an in-person, on-site visits and coordinating the management, operation, control and maintenance of all parks and recreation areas in the section.
  • Overseeing the coordination with various agencies and City personnel (Department of Design and Construction, Managing Director’s Office, Department of Enterprise Services, Department of Facility Maintenance, Department of Environmental Services, Maintenance Support Services Section, Division of Urban Forestry, etc.) to plan and coordinate programs, activities and functions.
  • Directing and coordinating through subordinate staff the operations of recreational and educational programs and services within the area.
  • Enforcing the State’s conservation and resource laws, rules and regulations to ensure the protection, conservation and utilization of fish and wildlife resources.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for restricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, hospitality management, horticulture, agronomy, botany, landscape architecture, or related field.


Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four (4) years of experience in managing the overall operation of a major park (e.g., district park), group of parks (e.g., recreation complex) or similar facility, which demonstrated knowledge of facility usage and coordination; and/or administrative experience in managing the maintenance and beautification of a major park or similar facility, which demonstrated technical competence in soil and turf management and landscaping.

Applicable Skills:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of business management, public relations, and supervision;
  • Knowledge of and ability to do budget preparation, basic accounting and record-keeping;
  • Ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of subordinate staff;
  • Ability to develop policies, procedures, rules and regulations;
  • Ability to plan the development and growth of a regional park;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff, representatives of other departments, community groups, and the general public;
  • Ability to deal effectively with employees, volunteers, and the public.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license. The current vacancy requires a valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
