Position Information
The Department of Human Resources (DHR) and Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) are each looking for candidates to fill a vacant Secretary III position in Honolulu.
The DHR position is with the Employment and Personnel Services Division and provides secretarial and administrative services to the division head (program administrator/top executive) as well as supports the multiple branches' staff members within the division. The position's duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting callers and visitors with their inquiries.
- Overseeing the distribution of incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence.
- Maintaining division correspondence log, reports, and personnel files.
- Independently composing, preparing, and finalizing letters, memorandums, reports, and routine correspondences.
- Organizing and coordinating matters that require executive attention.
- Researching files and other background material and summarizing and briefing materials.
- Checking on the flow of materials through the Division to be certain that all deadlines ae met or the Division and/or Chief Planner can be alerted.
- Finalizing reports and/or resolutions pertaining to Land Use Ordinance amendments, Special Management Area Permits, and major LUO permits requiring City Council approval.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At the time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four years of secretarial, stenographic or substantive clerical experience.
Such experience must have included knowledge of office practices and procedures; word processing and computers; filing methods and systems; grammar, spelling, and word usage; use of standard office equipment; and the ability to type and input information accurately; understand and effectively use word processing and other software applications; summarize and brief materials; deal tactfully and effectively with employees and the public; work harmoniously with others.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required.
