Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education Requirement
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience that demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Experience Requirement
Five years of office experience, two years of which shall have been in searching or recording land titles.
Substitution: Business school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required office experience. There is NO substitution for the two years of experience searching or recording land titles.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
Verification Requirement: You may submit evidence of your education to be credited for the substitution. Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application. The Department of Design and Construction , Land Division i s looking for an Abstractor I to review various land transfer documents pertinent to land titles and transactions.
As an Abstractor I, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Gathering and analyzing pertinent information from Deeds, Agreements of Sale, Leases, Assignments, Grants, Mortgages, Releases, Land Court Certificates of Title, and other appropriate government agencies.
- Gathering and analyzing pertinent information from Civil suits, probate proceedings, mechanics liens, law and equity proceedings and other types of cases filed at Court.
- Conducts personal or telephone interviews when available records are insufficient to provide information relating to ownership or claimants.
- Creates a worksheet showing in chronological order of the history of ownership of land.
- Evaluates and consolidates appropriate data and evidentiary materials resulting incomprehensive and accurate summary or typed report of such findings detailing the project, ownership, land description, encumbrances on the land, liens, defects or title, property assessments and/or reservations, etc.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.
