The position is responsible for the inspection of waterworks construction or installation projects to assure that the materials, workmanship, and finished product are in adherence to the established plans, specifications, acceptable waterworks construction practices and techniques and other Board of Water Supply standards. The nature of work includes assignments as an independent inspector on a construction or installation project of a smaller scale or as an inspector under a project engineer and/or inspector of higher grade on a project of larger scope.

- An Associate's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from a regionally-accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.
- A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided.
