The Department of Facility Maintenance, Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division is hiring for a Carpenter-Cabinet Maker in Honolulu. Work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:50 AM - 3:20 PM. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Carpenter or Carpentry Supervisor, the position performs a variety of highly skilled journey level carpentry work involving the construction, renovation and modification of public facilities and the fabrication and installation of storage cabinets, counters, shelving, tables, doors and other accessory items such as key cabinets, drapery, valances, chalkboards, bulletin boards etc., which require the knowledge and use of high level cabinet-making skills. The position also performs numerous skilled journey level carpentry work in the repair and maintenance of wide variety of public buildings, related structures and appurtenances under the jurisdiction of the Department of Facility Maintenance.
Special Work Requirements: This position serves as a Disaster Response Worker and sometimes requires working beyond the normal workday, on weekends, and as necessary to meet schedules and deadlines. This position will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position.
Such experience must have demonstrated the ability to plan, lay out and set up work; set up, adjust and operate a variety of woodworking machines; operate and maintain equipment and tools used in carpentry and cabinetmaking; read, interpret and work from plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches and working drawings; estimate time, labor and material requirements; rig and work from scaffolds and other high and difficult vantage points; construct and repair high grade wooden furniture and fine woodwork; work to close tolerances; work with dexterity and safety; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain good working relationships with others; handle weights and loads.
NOTE: CABINET MAKING EXPERIENCE ALONE IS NOT QUALIFYING. EXPERIENCE MUST INCLUDE BOTH CARPENTRY AND CABINET MAKING.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
- Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
- Valid Forklift Certification, prior to completion of probation.

EMPLOYMENT SUITABILITY:
To determine the selectee's employment suitability for the position of Carpenter-Cabinet Maker, the Department of Human Resources will review criminal convictions, dismissals from employment, and separations from military service under other than honorable convictions.
FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT: This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC). Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment within the JTMC requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. Therefore, the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
