Current Vacancies:
There are three (3) vacancies with the Department of Environmental Services, Wastewater Engineering and Construction Division in multiple branches.
- One (1) vacancy in the Collection System Engineering Branch, responsible for a Collection System Engineering Section and the engineering, design, and administrative work connected with the planning, directing, developing, and reviewing of plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering studies, and support during construction on all of the City's initiated gravity sewer improvements and appurtenances. The sewer improvements comprise of sewer tunnels, interceptor sewers, medium-sized trunk sewers and smaller-sized sewers.
- One (1) vacancy in the Plant Engineering Branch, responsible for a Plant Engineering Section and the engineering, design, and administrative work connected with the planning, directing, developing and reviewing of plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering studies and support during construction on all of the City’s initiated wastewater facilities projects. Facilities projects include, but are not limited to, wastewater treatment facilities and processes; air/odor control facilities and processes; wastewater monitoring facilities; wastewater treatment disposal facilities and processes (solids and liquids); wastewater and solid water reuse facilities and processes; pump stations and force mains.
- One (1) vacancy in the Construction Management Branch, responsible for a Field Engineering Section and manages, plans, organizes and directs all technical and administrative activities of this section, including but not limited to, inspection of construction of wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, outfalls, force mains, gravity sewer improvements, private sewer installations and hookups, and appurtenances thereto; administration of construction contracts and negotiation of construction change orders; administration of consultant contracts on matters relating to construction; and professional development of the staff.
Special Work Requirements: Occasional exposure to construction and traffic hazards, sewage gases, sewer treatment chemicals, paint fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment. Some physical dexterity is required to occasionally perform field investigations, which include: climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks, and manholes, crawling thru pipes, carrying sampling, measuring, and testing equipment, and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces. Regular hours are anticipated but may require shift, evening, night, weekend, or holiday work to accommodate unusual problems or workload. Will serve as Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1. Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional engineer in Civil Engineering. Applicants with a current out-of-state license in Civil Engineering must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
