The Department of Planning and Permitting, Planning Division, is hiring one (1) Planner III in Honolulu to conduct land use, housing and environmental surveys and studies; collect, compile and analyze social, economic and physical data; prepare reports and graphic illustrations; and gather background data for the review and analysis of zone change and other land use approval applications.
This position's duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting professional planners to process simple applications involving state land use district boundary amendments, special use permits, zone changes and public infrastructure map amendments;
- Independently performing technical research and analytical work in the evaluation of simple and moderately complex projects;
- Preparing exhibits, maps, tables and other graphic displays to support presentations to the Planning Commission, City Council, and for workshops and other informational sharing meetings.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with major work in city planning, sociology, business or public administration or a related field.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One (1) year of research or analytical experience in social, economic or community development programs.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures; standard sources and uses of socio-economic information; socio-economic problems and conditions; basic objectives and principles of community planning; and the ability to conduct research and statistical studies; collect, classify and analyze statistical data; prepare tables, charts and graphs; and prepare clear and concise reports.
Substitution: A Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university may be substituted for the required one year of professional work experience in research or analytical experience in social, economic or community development programs.
