Typing statements in real time to ensure that all testimonies for investigations are accurately transcribed
Help unravel the truth behind police-related incidents as a Police Reporter by accurately transcribing investigations conducted by the Honolulu Police Commission (Commission). This is a position only for those who can stay calm and collected in stressful situations as you will interact with a variety of people from all walks of life including angry/hostile complainants who have broken the law, those who may have come into contact with contagious diseases, and those who are physically or mentally handicapped (i.e., AIDS, deaf, blind, etc.). Be the first person whom the complainants interact with when they file their complaint with the Commission by registering and starting the paperwork for their complaint. You must be able to work at night, on weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours to meet unforeseen requirements or deadlines, frequently without advance notice of work requirements.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Five (5) years of clerical experience which shall have included stenographic work.

Applicable Skills:
- Ability to take dictation at a rate of 110 words per minute.
- Ability to type at a rate of 40 net words per minute.
- Ability to interpret and explain laws, ordinance, rules, regulations and policies pertinent to the department
- Ability to write clear and concise reports

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
Possession of or ability to obtain a Hawaii Notary Public Certificate, prior to completion of probation.
