RADIO TECHNICIAN I (SR-19) [5 vacancies]

Adjusts, tests, services, maintains and installs radio transmitters, receivers and other communications equipment in vehicles and permanent locations; designs, constructs, modifies and repairs radio equipment; and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancies: 
  • Three vacancies with the Honolulu Police Department, Support Services Bureau 
  • One vacancy with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Water Systems Operations - Telecommunications.
  • One vacancy with the Honolulu Fire Department

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of a two-year program in electronics technology from an accredited community college or technical school.
 

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

 

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your Bachelor's degree in order to be given credit.  Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application.  Or mail a photocopy of your documents to the following address: Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI 96813.  Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted.  Copies will not be returned. All information on your documentation must be legible and complete in order to be given credit.



EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three (3) years of technical work experience involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of radio communications or related equipment.


LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
 
Desirable: Possession of a valid Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License is desirable.  If you have a valid FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License, please attach an electronic copy of your FCC license to your application or submit a photocopy to: Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI 96813.

In addition to meeting the above minimum qualifications, your application will be further evaluated. Your score will be based on the quality, quantity, and/or recency of your education and experience.  Failure to provide sufficient information may result in your application being rejected or your receiving a lower grade.
