The Department of Corporation Counsel is looking for a Supervising Legal Clerk II to help plan, organize and assist in providing a wide variety of legal clerical and office services in supporting the attorneys assigned to the Litigation Division; and serve as the Secretary to the Litigation Division Head.
As a Supervising Legal Clerk II, your duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Participating in providing a variety of complex legal clerical and secretarial services to the Litigation Division Head and assigned attorneys. This will include:
- Managing complex legal documentation and sensitive legal documentation and communication;
- Maintaining legal documents and related files in digital and physical format;
- Assisting with the orientation of new Litigation Division attorneys to inform them of organization, functions, and internal procedures of the Division.
- Supervising the Litigation Division’s Clerical Support Personnel, to include:
- Scheduling clerical interviews for the Division;
- Participating in the interview and selection of prospective clerical support personnel;
- Training clerical support personnel;
- Providing instruction on work methods and standard operating procedures.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities of the position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Six years of progressively responsible legal clerical work experience, two of which must have involved supervisory responsibilities.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision; legal terminology; form, content and use of legal documents, legal processes, procedures and precedents; filing systems of legal records; grammar, spelling and word usage as they pertain to legal activities; and law office practices and procedures; and the ability to plan, direct and coordinate the work of a clerical staff engaged in legal clerical activities; locate and abstract data from legal files and records; supervise the maintenance of filing systems of legal records and documents; and plan training programs for subordinates.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE: Experience in the use of a personal computer to input, retrieve, and analyze data using database, spreadsheets, word processing or similar programs.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States.
