The Department of Engineering & Public Works, Utilities Division is looking for someone to fill our Utilities Field Operations Supervisor position.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This is a full-time, salaried position that works Monday through Friday 8 : 00am - 4 : 30pm, with the expectation of work outside of these hours as needed. Your office would be located at the Mendenhall Wastewater Treatment Plant at 2009 Radcliffe Rd, Juneau, AK 99801.
Typical Responsibilities
The Engineering & Public Works, Utilities Division is looking for an experienced candidate interested in serving as the Utilities Field Operations Supervisor. The CBJ Utilities Division provides water and wastewater services to more than 30,000 residents and businesses and over a million visitors annually. This position will supervise field operation staff responsible for water metering, distribution, and wastewater collections for the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ).
Responsibilities Include :
- Meeting compliance standards and policies for local, state, and federal regulations for water and wastewater industries.
- Briefing and advising the Production & Treatment Manager, Superintendent, Deputy Director, and / or the Manager's Office about issues with department and city impact.
- Assisting and directing senior operators and meter techs in leading and supervising the work of operators, discussing outcomes of employee coaching, generating methods for rating performance, and conducting work inspections for completeness.
- Supervising site and employee safety, employee selection, performance assessment, discipline, and employee personnel actions.
- Supervising major capital infrastructure repairs and replacements through financial oversight, cost containment, and system planning.
- Assessing needs and initiating acquisition of materials, supplies and equipment used for the operation of facilities and systems.
- Developing Capital Improvement plans with the Utilities Superintendent that addresses infrastructure needs and supports a contemporary, data driven workforce.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : High school graduation or GED certificate.
Experience : Three (3) years of lead experience : as a utilities operator, in the maintenance and construction of water or wastewater lines, utilities engineering assistant, or any combination of this specified experience.
Substitution : Post-secondary education from an accredited college in engineering, construction management or similar field substitutes for the required experience on the basis of one month of experience for 2.5 semester hours or 3.75 quarter hours of education.
Certifications : Within six (6) months of appointment : training and certification in CPR, First Aid, Confined Space and Rescue, Traffic Control Flagging. Forklift Operator, and Respirator Fit Test.
Licenses : A valid Driver's license at the time of appointment and for continued employment.
