The Docks & Harbors Department is hiring two (2) Harbor Technician Part-Time Limited positions to join our team.

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
You will be performing a variety of duties to assist Harbor Officers with the operation, maintenance, and management of the City and Borough of Juneau’s docks, harbors, and associated facilities. Your primary responsibility will be providing excellent customer service to tourists arriving and departing from cruise ships. This may involve greeting passengers, assisting with information, and ensuring a smooth, welcoming experience for visitors.
In addition to customer service, you will assist with Port of Juneau security during cruise ship port calls. Security-related tasks include performing ID checks, passenger screening, conducting patrols on the port security vessel, and supporting vendor and loading zone management.
When not engaged in security or customer service duties, you will have the opportunity to hone your maintenance and repair skills by assisting with cleaning and performing basic repairs to the facilities.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position is based out of the Port Field Office (PFO) near the Gold Belt Tram. Workdays and hours vary and will be based upon the cruise ship schedule. This position will work up to five (5) days per week, and up to eight (8) hours per shift. This position has the potential to work a highly flexible schedule if desired.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school graduation or the equivalent
Experience: None
Other: Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment; AND
A valid Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
In accordance with 33 CFR Part 105: The selected candidate will be required to sign non-disclosure agreements for sensitive security information.
The selected candidate must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Workers Identification credential (TWIC). An individual who lacks lawful presence and certain immigration status in the United States, has a connection to terrorist activity, has been determined to lack mental capacity or was convicted of certain crimes will be ineligible for a TWIC.
Desired Qualifications
Experience: Prior experience in vessel operation exceeding 18ft in length including VHF radio communications experience is desired. Background in Customer Service.
