Job Title: Residential Support Staff
Reports: TLP Operations Manager
General Purpose:
Responsible for assisting with matters pertaining to promoting a safe, nurturing, motivating environment where program participants can thrive independently and respectfully in an affirming community setting.
Provides direct support and guidance to residents in the transitional living program while meeting the physical, emotional, and developmental needs as a team member and collaborator of the resident’s support system.
- Helps provide a safe living environment through a trauma informed approach that stimulates a balance of independence, positive self-confidence, and promotes healthy conflict resolution skills.
- Prioritizes room and house checks at each house at the beginning and ending of the shift to ensure safety and security
- Provides transportation to and from goal-related activities, including work, school, and other goal realted appointments
- Co-facilitate on-site and off-site groups, classes, and scheduled activities
Utilizes a Trust-Based Relational Intervention approach to help program participants learn effective problem solving skills and daily living skills
- Recognize that residents will present with a history of trauma
- Ability to connect with residents & respond with compassion and awareness
- Knowledge & utlization of deescaltion skills & strategies
- Provide opportunities for program participants to set goals and expectations for their individual living environment
- Develop a safe space in which each program participant plays an active role in providing constructive feedback in their participation experience
- Performs service delivery from a trauma informed, strengths-based perpective
Communicates effectively (oral, written, and verbally) with the staff and team to address any concerns and needs of program participants,
- Participates as a member of an Interdisciplinary team, which includes but is not limited to staffing, in-service training, emails, staff notes, communication, etc.
- Upholds the program requirements, community living expectations, and policy/procedures of the program
Manages the residential community living responsibilities including but not limited to resident community responsibilities, household maintenance, house meetings, cleaning responsibilities
- Property walk-through for safety, proper housekeeping, and to document maintenance needs
- Manage and oversee on-site and off-site volunteers, donors and other work group activities and received donations
- Facilitate Residential meetings as scheduled
- Emphasizes safety of the residents, cleanliness of both the environment and their bodies, and monitors to insure proper food preparation and clean up at all times while on duty.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
- College level classes with an emphasis on social services preferred. Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of one year’s experience working with people experiencing homelessness, abuse/neglect or trauma
- Current valid driver’s license and updated insurance
- CPR / First Aid training required or willing to be certified upon hire
- TB & Drug testing is required
- Submit a background check as required by regulatory agencies.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of computer applications, Microsoft office, and the internet
- Complete the training topics each year as required by TLP program grant standards
- Creates and maintains a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation.
Minimum Physical Requirements:
- A job requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping and light lifting.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to residents who may have high behavioral needs which could lead to physical and verbal aggression.
- Possible exposure to the hazards of a home environment, related to household activities, cleaning agents, and food preparation. Exposure to illnesses and blood is a possibility.
This position could be funded through state and federal contracts and grants and is subject to termination if funding ceases.
