Job Title: Assistant to the Director

Reports To: Childcare Director

Position Type: Part-time

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Assistant to the Director to join our team. In this multifaceted role, you will support both administrative and educational needs within our childcare center. You will assist the Director with various office and operational tasks, and step in as a substitute teacher when needed to ensure a smooth and enriching experience for children.

As an Assistant to the Director, you will help maintain a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children, while also ensuring the administrative functions of the center run efficiently. This is not a supervisory role.

Key Responsibilities:Administrative Support:

  • Assist the Childcare Director with general office duties, including filing, record keeping, and managing child attendance.
  • Prepare and maintain materials for parent communication, newsletters, and other center-related correspondence.
  • Assist with scheduling, including tracking staff availability and ensuring proper coverage.
  • Support the Director with enrollment processes, such as processing forms and updating student records.
  • Help maintain inventory of classroom supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is stocked and well-organized.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with licensing regulations and center policies.

Classroom Support / Substitute Teaching:

  • Step in as a substitute teacher as needed, ensuring continuity in the learning environment when regular staff are unavailable.
  • Lead, supervise, and engage children in various age-appropriate activities, including educational lessons, playtime, and outdoor activities.
  • Follow lesson plans provided by regular teachers or the Director, adapting as necessary to the needs of the children.
  • Ensure a positive, safe, and nurturing environment for children, promoting emotional, social, and cognitive development.
  • Manage classroom behavior, encouraging positive interactions and resolving conflicts in a constructive manner.

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily routines such as meal times, naps, and restroom activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom and common areas.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff, providing updates on children's progress and well-being.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures as outlined by the childcare center.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a childcare, teaching, or similar environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing classroom needs and schedules.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • A positive, nurturing attitude and a passion for working with children.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, assist children with physical activities, and be active during playtime.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and health screening.

Compensation:

  • $14/hr , 20 hours/week
  • Flexible Schedule
