Music/Choir Director Job DescriptionPosition Title: Music/Choir Director
Reports To: Senior Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)
Status: Part-Time
Salary: $12,000 annuallyPosition Summary:Headland Methodist Church seeks a passionate and spiritually grounded Music/Choir Director to enhance worship through music ministry. The ideal candidate will lead and direct the church choir and collaborate with the pastor and worship team to plan and implement meaningful worship experiences that glorify God, inspire the congregation, and nurture the spiritual life of the church.Key Responsibilities:
- Worship Leadership:
- Plan, prepare, and lead music for Sunday worship services and special services (e.g., Christmas Eve, Easter, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to select hymns, anthems, and other music appropriate for the liturgical calendar and sermon themes.
- Choir Leadership:
- Recruit, rehearse, and direct the church choir, ensuring members are nurtured both musically and spiritually.
- Organize and lead weekly choir rehearsals.
- Encourage participation and foster a welcoming environment for all choir members.
- Musical Excellence:
- Provide or arrange accompaniment for rehearsals and services as needed.
- Develop the musical skills of the choir and encourage growth in music ministry.
- Introduce a variety of musical styles while honoring the church’s traditions.
- Administration:
- Coordinate with the church staff and volunteers to ensure seamless integration of music into worship services.
- Maintain the church's music library and manage resources for the music ministry within the approved budget.
- Communicate regularly with the pastor, SPRC, and congregation about music ministry opportunities and needs.
- Special Services and Events:
- Prepare music for weddings, funerals, and other church-related events (with additional compensation, if applicable).
- Plan and execute occasional musical programs (e.g., cantatas, concerts, or hymn sings).
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent experience in music ministry preferred.
- Previous experience directing a church choir is highly desirable.
- Skills and Attributes:
- Strong vocal and/or instrumental proficiency.
- Knowledge of traditional and contemporary Christian music.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- A collaborative and positive attitude with the ability to inspire others.
- A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and alignment with the mission and theology of Headland Methodist Church.
Working Hours:
- Average of 10-12 hours per week, including worship services, rehearsals, and planning time.
- Attendance at special services, staff meetings, and church events as necessary.
Salary and Benefits:
- Annual salary of $12,000 (paid bi-weekly or monthly as agreed).
