Seeking Part Time Loss Prevention Specialist.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Loss prevention specialists are responsible for the safety and security of the facility, products, staff, and guests at their assigned location. Loss prevention specialists identify and prevent theft or damage of company property, investigate incidents, and prepare detailed reports. Loss prevention specialists work with store management and team members to ensure all loss prevention policies and procedures are properly implemented and followed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implements, communicates, and evaluates all loss prevention programs.
  • Evaluates shrinkage, assesses possible causes, and works with Loss Prevention Manager to design and implement policies and procedures as needed.
  • Assures that all store managers and team members are properly trained, evaluated, and receive proper feedback verbally and in writing, regarding loss prevention in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assures that all team members are kept well informed of loss prevention policies and procedures, especially when changes are implemented.
  • Assures that investigations and audits are conducted regularly and on an as-needed basis.
  • Investigates and recommends solutions regarding all discrepancies disclosed during audits.
  • Prepares detailed reports of all activities and investigations.
  • Partners with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute crimes.
  • Demonstrates and explains methods of detecting and apprehending shoplifters.
  • Apprehends shoplifters when required.
  • Be an expert of and maintain strict compliance with the law and company policies concerning apprehensions, searches and seizures, and the preservation of evidence.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and issues applicable to retail industry. Maintains a clear understanding of how each law and regulation applies to the day-to-day responsibilities of this position.
  • Maintains security of all areas.
  • Ensures that all departmental files are properly maintained.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide assistance to team members as needed.
  • Maintains flexibility in learning other functions throughout the store
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of general business, office and departmental procedures, including all Company policies and procedures as they apply to this position.
  • Improves and maintains technical competencies by reading professional literature, attending seminars and specialized training, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school degree required. College education preferred.
  • Minimum of twelve months of equivalent experience in a related field required (loss prevention, security, law enforcement, or military guard service).
  • Ability to operate a cash register, calculator, telephone, and personal computer, as needed.
  • Valid Hawaii guard card required.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Must possess a high level of integrity.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including listening. Must be able to project a clear and friendly voice.
  • Proven ability to train, evaluate and take appropriate corrective action if necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain a high degree of accuracy and judgement. Must be able to work professionally through difficult and sensitive situations.
  • Well-organized and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Proven ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

INTERPERSONAL INTERACTION:

This position reports directly to the Loss Prevention Manager. On a daily basis, this position interacts with external and internal customers including managers and team members within various departments of the organization. Additionally, this position may have interaction with related industry vendors, consultants, and law enforcement.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position works in a retail store environment with the following characteristics: Air conditioning, with the exception of lumber, garden, and other designated areas, Fluorescent lighting, Moderate noise level, Fumes, Dust, and Chemicals.

Incumbent also is required to operate a motor vehicle on the highways of the island of Oahu.

While the company will strive to provide advance notice of all work schedules, this position will be required to work a varied schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays as the workload dictates. No Loss Prevention Specialist is guaranteed a specific shift, day of the week, or number of hours per week.
