This person is expected to acknowledge and uphold the City Mission’s Statement of Faith. This person is expected to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment to individuals entering the Welcome Center and or Shelter. This position is expected to maintain flexible hours, with second and or third shift coverage, along with holidays and weekends. This position reports to a member of Men’s Leadership.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Treat all guests with dignity and respect while maintaining a sensitivity to diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Share the Gospel, when appropriate, with guests and or program residents.
- Develop and cultivate positive relationships with residents, guests and or donors.
- Maintain safety protocols and cleanliness of the Welcome Center and Men’s Shelter.
- Provide residents and guests with information regarding the rules and policies of the shelter and dorms, as well as assisting with the enforcement of these rules and policies.
- Provide conflict resolution with a calm and peaceful attitude and demeanor.
- Cooperate with law enforcement agencies, as required.
- Log all incidents and pertinent information appropriately in the client database, while also providing continuous communication to Men’s staff members and Men’s Leadership.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Human Services or related field or 1-3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to work well in a team environment, and with limited supervision
- Demonstrated ability to track progress and maintain client contact in the client database.
- Working knowledge of community and human services agencies, programs and or partnerships.
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written)
- Ability to work with and be sensitive to people from diverse backgrounds
City Mission of Schenectady provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State Law on Pay Transparency in Job Advertisements. The compensation range for this role is $15.00 per hour - $17.00 per hour. Actual compensation rates depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, and education. The compensation range listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay and or other forms of compensation or benefits.
