Position Overview: Drug and Alcohol Counselors will be part of the Multi-Disciplinary Response Team responding to 9-1-1 and calls for service for people experiencing homelessness and mental health concerns. Drug and Alcohol Counselors will provide mental health assessments, meet clients where they are, and support them to achieve their goals. City Net’s services are housing-focused; Drug and Alcohol Counselors work with clients on developing long-term housing plans. Drug and Alcohol Counselors connect homeless neighbors to appropriate supportive services, including medical health treatment, mental health treatment, counseling, and permanent housing.
Drug and Alcohol Counselors will be part of multi-disciplinary care teams alongside Case Managers, Mental Health Techs, and other professionals offering care and service coordination in partnership with other nonprofits, County and City entities, law enforcement, behavioral health services, and medical providers to ensure clients receive the help they need. These services are provided in collaboration with our partners with the intention of assisting clients with obtaining and maintaining permanent housing as quickly as possible.

Main Work Location: Reports daily to the Santa Ana office to be dispatched to field work throughout Anaheim.
Work Environment & Expected Hours: Sunday - Wednesday from 7 am - 5:30 pm. This job operates primarily “in the field”, with daily travel to and work within local neighborhoods, shelters, and informal encampments as well as meetings in professional office environments, law enforcement offices, community nonprofit and government agency offices, and other public and business spaces. This position works four days per week, 10 hours each shift. *Schedule subject to change
Requirements
- Substance Use Disorder Counseling Certification/Credentials required (CADC, CATC, CAS, RAS, etc.)
- Experience cultivating and maintaining productive, professional relationships with various stakeholders
- Excellent professional boundaries
- Professional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and time management skills
- Effective and professional networking and relationship management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Proficient PC, Microsoft Office Suite, iPhone, and Google Suite skills
- Ability to accomplish goals and produce valuable results with minimal supervision
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining creativity and strategic thinking and continuing to meet or exceed goals
- Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds with varying degrees of experience
- Ability to inspire, train, motivate, challenge, and coordinate others
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer
Nice To Have
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field
- Case management experience with City Net’s target populations (people affected by homelessness, substance use disorders, chronic health and mental health concerns, domestic and intimate partner violence, and/or human trafficking)
- Experience and contacts with homelessness services organizations in the Santa Ana area
