JOB SUMMARY
This position schedules client transport and dispatches transit drivers.
MAJOR DUTIES
· Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
· Dispatching by taking calls, entering the rides, and sending passengers to the appropriate driver.
· Monitor routes and location of vehicles.
· Operates a two-way radio to dispatch drivers and relay information.
· Enters client and driver data to computerized database.
· Routing the rides to the appropriate routes. Routing involves knowing the drivers, the buses, the riders, and the locations.
· Balances and verifies driver receipts.
· Prepares deposits.
· Sells tickets for local and interstate travel.
· Performs related duties as assigned, including tracking and reports.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
· Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
· Knowledge of computers and job-related software applications.
· Knowledge of two-way radio communications principles.
· Knowledge of general bookkeeping principles.
· Skill in the maintenance of files and records.
· Skill in the use of modern office equipment.
· Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
· Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Transportation Director assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include program policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
· The work consists of related radio dispatch and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
· The purpose of this position is to dispatch drivers and assist customers. Successful performance contributes to the efficient and effective provision of services.
· This position also maintains and completes Jefferson Lines transportation arrangements.
CONTACTS
· Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, clients, and the general public.
· Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
· The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
· The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
· Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
· Knowledge of geographical make-up of Aberdeen to include streets, avenues, and address locations.
· Multi-lingual is helpful.
