Position Summary
This position is responsible for planning, scheduling, assigning, and supervising the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical infrastructure.
Position Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Designs commercial and residential power distribution systems; coordinates installation with developers, builders, and other utility companies.
- Assists in system planning and load forecasts, including primary system upgrades and modifications.
- Manages and conducts special projects and studies related to the distribution system.
- Assists with service restoration during outages.
- Performs switching operations on main distribution lines for load balances, service restoration, line construction, and substation work.
- Coordinates joint construction projects with other utilities and wholesales suppliers.
- Plans and designs electrical metering projects.
- Assists with budgeting and system forecasting.
- Directs the work of a crew of personnel; ensures compliance with all safety rules and regulations.
- Receives and prioritizes work orders; organizes job labor and divides duties between crew members.
- Oversees equipment maintenance.
- Inspects distribution system and right-of-way to ensure public safety and quality of service.
- Assists warehouse personnel in the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Oversees and delivers training to crew personnel.
- Responds to electrical infrastructure emergencies; diagnoses problems, prepares action plans, and completes repairs.
- Completes required reports and maintains required records.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains underground and overhead electrical distribution infrastructure.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical infrastructure.
- Knowledge of underground, overhead, and substation distribution design principles.
- Knowledge of load management principles.
- Knowledge of electrical metering.
- Knowledge of city electrical specifications.
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
- Skill in utilizing specialized tools and equipment related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and occasional cold or inclement weather. Some of the work is performed on utility poles, in elevated buckets, and in the presence of electrified lines. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with five to seven years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Completion of training and experience sufficient to be classified as a Journey Lineworker.
