Position Summary
This position is responsible for supervision of all camp water-based activities.
Position Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs duties related to assisting the Camp Director and Assistant Director in providing a safe and friendly environment for campers.
- Performs duties and makes decisions consistent with department mission, vision, and core values.
- Conducts weekly swim assessment of camp participants and establishes limitations for individual range in the water.
- Supervises and leads camp participants in all water-based activities.
- Delivers accurate and timely reports of injuries, safety issues, damage to property, needed repairs, and low inventories of camp supplies to the attention of the Camp Director or Assistant Director.
- Follows, practices, and helps enforce all rules and safety standards for camp
- Provides quality customer service to camp participants and guardians.
- Follows verbal and written instructions from superiors and ensures the timely and quality completion of those assigned tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Employee reports directly to the Summer Camp Director and Assistant Director. The employee may also be directed by other administrative staff within the department at times. Employee will oversee groups of participants.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work takes place in an outdoor setting in a variety of weather conditions while participating in moderate to high levels of physical activity including, but not limited to standing, swimming, wading, running, walking, jumping, bending, and minor lifting for long periods of time.
WORK HOURS:
Normal hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., position works four eight hour days per week. Special training events are required in the weeks prior to camp starting.Additional hours and some overtime may be required. This is an hourly temporary/seasonal position.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must have full use of upper and lower limbs, especially hands (for swimming). Eyeglasses or corrective lenses may be worn to provide 20-20 vision for the incumbent. Hearing aids are also satisfactory.
- Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, peers, and with children of various ages.
- Experience in participating in a variety of recreational type activities, extracurricular activities at school, volunteering, and serving the community.
- Background in aquatics based activities.
- Skills in written and oral communication.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be certified as a lifeguard.
- Must be seventeen (17) years of age or older, those under the age of eighteen (18) must possess a valid work permit.
- Must be able to follow all city ordinances, policies, and procedures.
