The City of Aiken Department of Public Safety is accepting applications for a Public Safety Fire Apparatus Driver / Operator.
Examples of Duties
- Performs general fire and rescue duties to protect life and property
- Exercises sound judgment in performing driver / operator duties, fire suppression, and medical first responder tasks
- Operates and performs various maintenance duties on fire and rescue vehicles and equipment

Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
Public Safety Officers participate in the SC Police Officer's Retirement System through PEBA.

Supplemental Retirement Plan - Full-time employees and paid volunteers are eligible the following July after one (1) full year of employment. Once eligible, $600 per year is put in an account for the employee's benefit using the Fireman's Insurance and Inspection Fund (1%).
Critical Care Policy - Full-time employees and paid volunteers that are eligible for the Supplemental Retirement Plan are also eligible for Critical Care Insurance.
