The City of Aiken's Department of Public Safety is accepting applications for Public Safety Officer I.
Examples of Duties
Performing general police and fire suppression duties in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Possess a valid SC driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record
- Must meet all requirements of South Carolina law for law enforcement officers and firefighters

Salary is negotiable dependent on qualifications.

Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
Public Safety Officers participate in the SC Police Officer's Retirement System through PEBA.

Supplemental Retirement Plan - Full-time employees and paid volunteers are eligible the following July after one (1) full year of employment. Once eligible, $600 per year is put in an account for the employee's benefit using the Fireman's Insurance and Inspection Fund (1%).
Critical Care Policy - Full-time employees and paid volunteers that are eligible for the Supplemental Retirement Plan are also eligible for Critical Care Insurance.
