AT THE CITY'S GOOD PARK GOLF COURSE.


This is responsible supervisory and coordination work at a municipal golf course.

An employee in this class is responsible for supervising day-to-day clubhouse, building and course maintenance, player, and concession activities at the municipal golf course on an assigned shift.

Works under the general administrative direction of the Golf Course Manager with independent responsibility for carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Characteristic Work

Assists with and supervises day-to-day clubhouse, player, driving range, building and course maintenance, and concession activities. Assists with scheduling the work of clubhouse operation staff. Ensures excellent customer service is provided to patrons. Serves as a liaison with City officials, golfers, civic and social groups and others regarding course schedules, programs, special events, hours of operations, etc. in such a way as to accommodate the greatest number of players. Schedules leagues and players and regulates starting times. Records starting times and the number of players. Supervises the office and fee collection operations. Receives and resolves complaints and other problems as needed. Coordinates tournaments and outings; assists with coordinating the use of facility with the First Tee Program. Supervises and assigns starters and attendants. Oversees clubhouse operations, locker rooms, and the golf shop. Uses personal computer and software to assist with preparing and initiating requisitions for supplies, equipment, and tools. Maintains inventory of materials, food and other supplies needed for concession, player and clubhouse operations. Plans and coordinates daily concession operations and the catering activities for on-site outings and banquets. Assists in planning and implementing capital improvement programs. May be responsible for opening or closing golf course facilities and depositing monies at the appropriate bank. Assists with maintaining records and writing various financial and statistical reports. Promotes the facility and provides excellent services and programming to patrons. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED and a minimum of three years of paid experience in golf course operations which has included clubhouse, maintenance, or food concession activities.

Knowledge of golf course, player, and concession operations. Some knowledge of building and course maintenance materials, methods, and standards. Ability to effectively supervise and coordinate clubhouse and player operations. Ability to effectively supervise and schedule the work of other employees. Ability to keep cash accounts, to accurately make cash transactions and to prepare bank deposits. Ability to keep manual and computerized inventories and records and initiate reordering of supplies and materials as needed. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other persons.

Competitive Examination Process

This is a classified position.

The selection process will consist of a competitive examination with credit for education and experience. Candidates must pass the competitive examination in order to receive credit for education and experience. TEST WEIGHTS: Competitive Examination 70%, Education 20%, Experience 10%.

NOTE: The competitive examination may be suspended if shown to be impractical because of an insufficient number of qualified candidates. The candidates will then be ranked in a standard manner based on 70% for qualifying, 20% for education, and 10% for experience.

Candidates must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in the announcement at the time of examination and at the time of appointment.


RESIDENCY: Candidates who have been resident citizens within the corporate limits of the City of Akron for at least one year immediately prior to the examination and who continue to reside within the corporate limits of the City of Akron throughout the remainder of the selection process will have 5 points added to their passing grades.

VETERANS: A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, honorably discharged from active duty, desiring a bonus of 5 points added to his/her passing grade, must submit proof of discharge in the form of a DD-214 with application.
