Ensure safety of students. Evaluate complaints received on equipment and supplies and take appropriate action. Complete paperwork as required by supervisor. Promote good safety practices and procedures. Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation. Work cooperatively with others. Exercise considerable independent judgment in carrying out assignments. Maintain a clean and safe work area. Supervise automotive mechanic helpers on large repairs. Mix, Blend, and spray automotive paints. Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents. Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy. Diagnose and perform skilled repair and preventive maintenance on automotive equipment. Perform shielded arc welding and oxyacetylene welding and cutting. Repair, overhaul, and maintain gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, drive trains, brake systems, steering systems, and other major components of a wide variety of automotive and construction equipment. Grind valves, install piston rings, replace worn bearings, install clutch plates. Perform service calls for equipment broken in the field. Fabricate parts as necessary. Tune engines. Take inventories of stock, keeping accurate records. Receive freight from carriers and checks shipments against purchase orders. Answer calls from various departments on deliveries. Perform related duties as assigned by the Garage Foreman. Lead helper on large repairs. Attend meetings and seminars as required.
• Graduation from an accredited High School or G.E.D
.• A minimum of three (3) years' paid experience at the skilled level in automotive repair work
• Must obtain State of Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake, school bus/passenger within first 6 months of employment
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to listen effectively and actively

• Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labels
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, hydraulics, mechanical equipment, computers, lubricants and welding
• Knowledge of the methods, tools and safety of Arc, MIG, and Oxyacetylene welding and cutting
• Knowledge of towing and recovery operations with wrecker and special equipment
• Knowledge of the methods, tools and practices of gasoline and diesel automotive equipment including preventive maintenance, diagnostics and repair
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the automotive repair trade
• Knowledge of the methods, tools, and practices of automotive construction equipment repair
• Ability to diagnose and repair defects in automotive and construction equipment
The selection process will consist of a competitive examination with credit for education and experience. A passing score must be obtained on the competitive examination in order to receive credit for education and experience. TEST WEIGHTS: Competitive Examination 70%, Education 20%, Experience 10%.
Candidates must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in the announcement at the time of examination and at the time of appointment.
NOTE: The competitive examination may be suspended if shown to be impractical because of an insufficient number of qualified candidates. The candidates will then be ranked in a standard manner based on 70% for qualifying, 20% for education, and 10% for experience.
VETERANS: A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, honorably discharged from active duty, desiring a bonus of 5 points added to his/her passing grade, must submit proof of discharge in the form of a DD-214 with application.
DRIVER'S LICENSE: An applicant having a valid driver's license from another state will be accepted conditionally provided that, if selected, an Ohio Driver's License must be obtained prior to appointment. Candidates having six or more points on their driving record at the time of appointment will be disqualified from further consideration.
