The salary advertised represents Step 1 through Step 10 on the pay table.The salary offered depends on qualifications.Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Planning & Zoning Division assigned to the City Manager’s Office in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, Urban Studies, or a closely related field;Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) within eighteen (18) months of hire; orObtain certification as a Zoning Inspector within eighteen (18) months of hire; andThree (3) years of experience in public administration or city planning with responsibility in zoning, subdivision, and/or land use planning;Valid New Mexico Floodplain Manager Certification within six (6) months of hire date;Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the supervision of employees;Valid New Mexico Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo;Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Desired: Valid certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work is typically performed in an office setting;Daily tasks require both sedentary and physical labor that include, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, turning, and driving;Position may also include on-site work at various locations and facilities where hazards may exist involving exposure to all phases of construction, traffic, hazardous materials, adverse weather conditions, noise, debris, dust, undeveloped and uneven terrain, wildlife typical of the southwest, and other obstacles and hazards;The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and moderate to loud in the field;Lift and/or move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; the lifting of any object greater than fifty (50) pounds by a single individual is prohibited. Lifting objects, materials, or equipment weighing more than fifty (50) pounds requires the buddy system or the use of devices designed to assist with lifting or moving. Proper lifting techniques shall be used when lifting items of any weight;May be subject to repetitive motion while using personal computer and multi-line telephone; andRequired to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for job assignments, including protective footwear, marked by the manufacturer, with a minimum standard of M/F I/75/C75, 6" ankle height work boots, per current ASTM F2413 standard.
