What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete Finisher position at City of Albany and Dougherty County, GA?
The Position
The purpose of this classification is to operate equipment and perform manual work functions associated with producing/finishing concrete areas and assisting with various Public Works projects.
Duties
Prepares work areas for concrete surface; measures/marks area to be formed; levels area and sets grade; removes debris.
Sets up forms for concrete area; determines amount of concrete required for project.
Monitors pouring of cement into forms; spreads concrete into sections of forms; shakes down poured cement; levels cement to appropriate depth and consistency; shapes surfaces; molds expansion joints.
Finishes surfaces of poured concrete to specified textures; removes rough or defective spots; patches holes.
Breaks old concrete surfaces and removes materials; repairs concrete surfaces and potholes.
Operates a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools used in department projects which may include a dump truck, front-end loader, backhoe, tamping machine, cement mixer, air compressor, jackhammer, chainsaw, concrete saw, sledgehammer, mallet, shovel, rake, axe, mechanic tools, concrete tools, concrete forms, etc.
Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects.
Performs manual work functions associated with department projects (which may include lifting/moving heavy materials, shoveling materials, picking up debris/litter, placing signage, etc.).
Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition (such as inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning work areas, etc.); monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Gathers appropriate equipment, tools, materials and supplies for use at work sites; initiates requests for additional materials; transports materials to job sites.
Receives, prepares and/or completes various forms, reports, work orders, maps, or other documentation; processes and forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service and information from employees, officials, the public or other individuals.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
May perform the duties of supervisor in absence of same, which may include supervising, reviewing work and maintaining standards; provides assistance and/or backup coverage to other employees or departments as assigned.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; additionally, two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving concrete or brick work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
