What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Marshal position at City of Albany and Dougherty County, GA?
The Position
The purpose of this classification is to maintain the best interest of the city as it relates to conducting business within the City of Albany and Dougherty County. They are primarily responsible for regulating businesses, conducting investigations and providing security to Albany Utility & Municipal Court.
Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Investigates utility fraud, business & alcohol license applicants; enforces compliance with codes/ordinances; completes background checks; conducts field interviews; and may process applications, conducts inspections at Alcohol Establishments and Sexual Oriented Businesses for compliance to all laws and ordinances.
Prepares and serves summons and warrants generated by municipal court; serves tax levies; collects past due accounts; assists in the collection of bonds and fines.
Inspects all wrecker companies & vehicles for hire to ensure safe transportation for the public, perform alcoholic beverage training to area merchants in hope to prevent the sale of alcohol to persons underage.
Investigates complaints, conduct interviews, take statements and gather information, conduct background checks and make arrests as necessary, issue violation letters, citations, and transport inmates and persons of interest.
Serves delinquent tax levies, summons and warrants issued by the municipal courts.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieves, reviews or modifies data using the department software system, excel, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and other equipment necessary to complete essential functions.
Enters/retrieves data to/from computer system including stolen property, investigation data, personal and criminal records check, arrest and wanted persons information, and background and history information; reviews crime statistics.
Identifies suspects; conducts surveillance on subjects and monitors conversations; pursues leads/information obtained from witnesses; determines reliability of information and probable cause; interrogates suspects; organizes photographic and identification line-ups.
Performs inventory control of supplies, equipment, and vehicles; inspects vehicles; oversees maintenance of law enforcement vehicles; requests service and/or repairs as needed; ensures weapons and equipment are maintained in functional and presentable condition.
Consults with supervisors, other law enforcement officers, inspectors, contractors, property owners, and other agency officials to develop strategic plans, problem solving, coordinate initiatives and provide information.
Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information/assistance from the public, court personnel, employees, officials or other persons.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a variety of specialized security equipment, which may include a police vehicle, firearms, handcuffs, radio/communications equipment, photographic equipment, video camera, tape recorder and compact disc player.
Delivers mail or documentation as assigned.
Performs all other related duties as required.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; supplemented by 3 years' experience as a Law Enforcement Officer with related experience and/or training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
