The City of Albany is seeking a Part-time Graphic Designer to join our team!
Part time working up to 25 hours per week with 10 hours schedule onsite.
Salary: Up to $43/Hourly
This is a part time, non-benefited position anticipated to work up to 25 hours per week with a flexible schedule. A minimum of 10 hours working onsite Monday through Friday during business hours is required. Telework is available.

- Creates and designs print and digital materials including promotional flyers, banners, posters, brochures, invitations, web graphics, large scale graphics, signs, web pages, surveys and other advertising and marketing materials as needed.
- Designs and produces visual marketing and communication materials in support of City programs or projects, such as department, facility, or project newsletters using Adobe Creative Suite software: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, ensuring that all work products adhere to and reflects the City of Albany's Brand.
- Researches and writes featured articles and/or other document types about a program, event, or project for both internal and external audiences.
- Supports marketing and promotional efforts by creating compelling visual content for various channels and campaigns.
- Provides Citywide print and digital graphics, secondary images, promotional materials, and online marketing related to departments, programs, or projects.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizes tasks, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Assembles final presentation material for printing as needed.
- Maintains organized files and documentation of design assets for easy access and future reference.
- Maintains filing systems to manage images. Serves as photographer as needed. Communicates effectively with colleagues and departments to address feedback, make revisions, and finalize designs.
- Interacts effectively and courteously with City employees and members of the public.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of
- Video, graphic design, typograph, color theory, web editing, and digital photography principles.
- Modern office equipment, including computers and related software.
- Up to date design trends and advancements in technology to take an innovative approach to content creation.
Skills and Abilities to
- Be proficient in using graphic design software and tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Office 365, Canva, and other alternative design software.
- Be familiar with print production processes, including file preparation, resolution, color modes, and printing techniques
- Writing and editing techniques for a variety of audiences.
- Understand the fundamental graphic design concepts such as layouts, typography, line composition, and color.
- Understand content marketing principles, storytelling techniques, and strategies for creating engaging and shareable content.
- Work with and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information or employee data.
- Demonstrate creativity in design.
- Provide positive and effective customer service.
- Associate’s degree in graphics design, artwork, communications, marketing or a related field..
- At least three (3) years of professional work experience in graphic design-related roles.
Special Requirements
- Have availability to work up to 25 hrs per week with a minimum of 10hrs working onsite Monday through Friday during business hours.
- Provide a portfolio showcasing samples of your artwork, graphics, advertisements, newsletters, brochures, flyers, and web designs as it relates to this position for consideration.
- Successful complete of LiveScan (background check).
