Water Distribution Operator 1 plans, coordinate, assign, and assist with the work of employees that excavate, install, maintain, and repair water transmission/distribution systems and associated structures and devices (e.g., mains, service lines, meters, valves, and/or fire hydrants) to ensure safe and clean water delivery to citizens. This includes the operation of related equipment (e.g., tapping machine, listening device, backhoe, bobcat, and trencher). Work assignments are received verbally and by work orders through the Water Distribution Foreman. The Foreman defines objectives, priorities, and deadlines and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. Extensive knowledge of EPD/EPA rules and regulations is required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
In the absence of the Working Foreman, the Water Distribution System Operator will evaluate assigned staff, processes employee concerns, and problems, directs work, counsels, and disciplines, conducts staff meetings, and completes employee performance appraisals. Provides guidance and assistance to crew members; assigns and assesses work; provides training as needed.
