Position Summary
Perform and / or assist in performing minor mechanical repairs and adjustments on a variety of gasoline and diesel automobiles, heavy equipment and other mechanical equipment; assist in diagnosing mechanical difficulties in automotive equipment; repair and replace tires and perform a variety of other tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
High school or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours vocational training in mechanical repair; and
One (1) year of experience in mechanical repair.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
When assigned to the Solid Waste Department :
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a brake repair certification within one (1) year from date of hire.
Possession of an AC recovery certification preferred.
Preferred Knowledge
- Basic theory of operation of automatic and manual transmission
- Basic principles of automotive repair
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
