Position Summary

Provide review and inspection of barricades placed within all City public right-of-way areas; ensure safety on all the City projects and provide safe adequate access to the motoring and pedestrian public in construction zones and maintain a systematic inspection program of barricade and / or detour installations for projects in the right-of-way.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associate's degree in design, drafting, or construction; and

Four (4) years of experience in construction zone and temporary traffic control

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

Principles and practices of engineering
Methods and techniques of construction plan review and development
Principles and practices of traffic control including barricading
Basic and advanced computer software programs to including database management.
Methods and techniques of construction
Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations

Preferred Skills & Abilities

Design, review and evaluate traffic control plans

Read and interpret complex drawings and specifications

Interpret barricading policies and procedures to determine signs, devices and markings

Ensure the safety of pedestrians in construction zones

Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public

Prepare clear and concise reports

Work independently in the absence of supervision

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities

Maintain effective audio / visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties
