What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic I, Electric Production position at City of Alexandria, LA?
Positions in this classification perform inspection, maintenance and repair of utility/industrial plant operating equipment, including large stationary internal combustion engines, assorted machinery, pumps, meters, electrical breakers, air compressors, and other plant equipment, and are subject to 24-hour call.
Inspects, maintains, repairs, and operates plant equipment and machinery, pumps, meters, electrical breakers, fuel, air and exhaust systems, compressors, valves and related. May maintain components of stack air emissions monitoring equipment; office or control room heating/air systems, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Installs equipment including pumps, motors, and air conditioners; rigs hoist chain to remove or install equipment; installs adjusts, calibrates and repairs various types of hydraulic equipment and machinery.
Assists electrician or instrument technician in repair, replacement, and maintenance of sensors, controls, motors, and circuits.
Reviews specifications, diagrams, manufacturers’ manuals; performs routine inspection and maintenance in assigned area, such as: alignment, lubrication, cleaning, adjustment and part replacement.
May perform welding and fabrication; fabricate and repair tools and equipment needed to perform required duties.
Prepares and maintains the appropriate records of maintenance activities, including parts inventory, maintenance schedules, and documentation of repairs.
Conducts routine inspections on boilers, cranes, hoists, fall restraints, ladders, and other equipment.
Maintains the grounds of the electrical production facility: mows grass and trims edges, trims hedges, rakes leaves; may sweep sidewalks, pick up litter, tend flower beds, etc.
Operates or uses power tools, hand tools, and supplies; operates and maintains drill press, boom truck, backhoe, tractor, welding equipment, mechanical wrenches, shovels, lawnmower, weed eater, and pressure washer, in addition to mechanics’ tools.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED; supplemented by prior working experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of industrial/utility plant equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Wastewater Collection Class II certification is desired for positions in Wastewater Treatment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
Positions in the Wastewater Department must obtain and maintain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within 60 days and may be required to obtain and maintain a valid State of Louisiana Class A or B commercial driver’s license.
Salary : $34,651 - $41,590
