The ideal candidate should have good knowledge of teen pregnancy prevention/youth development issues; Good knowledge of training methods and procedures; Good knowledge of principals of communications, public relations, and public information; Good knowledge of principals of youth development; Good knowledge of best practices in community education/outreach; Skill in providing services and programs to youth and families; Skill in team building; Ability to make presentations before groups; Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with wide range of community partners; Good knowledge of adolescent risk behaviors.
- Support PREP Grant Manager and PREP community partners in coordination of parent education meetings/orientations and programs.
- Facilitate three times weekly Peer Advocate meetings in coordination with ACAP PREP Grant Manager during after school at ACPS campuses and/or City Recreational Centers.
- Supervise weekly Peer Advocate facilitated sessions after school at multiple school and community sites in Alexandria.
- Support the Peer Advocates in planning, implementation and outreach events/initiatives (e.g. speaker events, workshops, tabling events creative projects);
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise ten youth Peer Advocates.
- Develop performance goals and evaluation measures for Peer Advocates and meet with each Peer Educator on a quarterly basis to track progress.
- Partner with ACAP Coordinator, ACAP PREP Grant Manager, and Teen Wellness Center Health Educator to train youth in peer-to-peer education presentations related to teen pregnancy/STI prevention, healthy relationships, social media safety, financial literacy, mindfulness, leadership, and Teen Wellness Center health services.
- Create workshops and presentations with Peer Advocates on topics related to teen pregnancy/STI prevention, healthy relationships, and positive youth development.
- Receive training in all evidence-based curricula and process evaluation procedures and provide facilitation support as needed.
- Track number of participants at all Peer Advocate outreach events including lunch tabling, Titan Takeovers, weekly meetings, and community events.
- Attend national and regional PREP meetings and trainings as assigned by supervisor.
- Attend ACAP Leadership Council monthly meetings and provide youth engagement updates.
- Attend required staff meetings.
- Participate in City and community meetings including, but not limited to, the Youth Services Coordinating Council and Children & Youth Master Plan Youth Empowerment Work Group.
- Assist PREP Grant Coordinator with Wrap Up Alexandria Campaign.
- Follow DCHS policies and procedures.
