TRAFFIC SERVICE WORKER III
Overview
A Traffic Service Worker III performs lead level skilled work in the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signs, pavement markings, parking meters and traffic counters. An employee in this class, in addition to serving as crew leader, performs the more difficult specialized tasks in a particular area. Employees in this class may be required to wok outdoors in inclement weather. Tasks are performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Transportation Superintendent.
The Opportunity
- Performs daily tasks of traffic signs and post installation, repair, replace street signs and post;
- Installs raised traffic bars and reflectors;
- Operates and maintains a wide variety of hand and power tools;
- Provides training to other traffic service workers in his/her area of work;
- Collects parking meter revenues and transport to bank depository;
- Prepares related records on a continuous basis;
- Repairs meters and installation of new meters;
- Troubleshoots and repairs single-space parking meters and multi-space control systems;
- On a daily basis install and maintains emergency temporary no parking signs and reserved signs throughout various locations in the city for special events, construction, moving, and special City Hall request;
- Retrieves upcoming request and installs information into parking sign tracker system on City database;
- Operates a city issued high air pressure paint truck, and hand liner, which are consistent with State and Federal regulation guidelines, used to repair and maintain traffic pavement markings throughout the City;
- Paints double yellow lines and solid white skip lines, parking bays, parking lots and wherever needed;
- Replaces traffic controller parts as directed by the traffic computer room;
- Helps out in the field when needed by the Signal Department to assist in special events such as hanging traffic signals, installing overhead signs, or flagging for multiple operations;
- Conducts various traffic surveys required throughout the city as instructed to obtain information about vehicles entering and departing the city; traffic flow as to program lights for better flow of traffic, as well as tour bus counts that visit or pass thru;
- Install traffic control markings with stencils or thermos plastic (hot tape) on the pavement as needed;
- Layout crosswalks in intersections, road striping, arrows, bike symbols, stop bars, parking bays, railroad crossings, and handicapped symbols where instructed;
- Serves as crew leader;
- Constructs traffic signs according to legal requirements concerning size, shape and other specifications;
- Completes workorders and productivity reports;
- Imitates requisitions for operational supplies;
- Completes administrative duties as needed;
- Performs related work as required.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
To qualify for this position, all candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED; transportation or construction experience in signs or pavement markings; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Employees must also possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of their residence.
Preferred Qualifications
To be considered the Ideal candidate, one should also possess five (5) years of experience in traffic control installation of signs, pavement markings and/or parking meters.
