Position Overview

Are you searching for a position with purpose; a position that allows you to share your leadership skills and expertise in therapy; a position that challenges you? If so, the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) is hiring for the position of Jail Therapist Supervisor, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). The main responsibility of this position is providing clinical intervention services to adult inmates experiencing psychiatric, behavioral and/or substance use related problems. As a leader of the Jail Mental Health Team, the Jail Therapist Supervisor provides clinical and administrative supervision to Senior Therapist positions.

Examples Of Duties

  • Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision to HIDTA funded Senior Therapist, and oversite of SUD programming and HIDTA grant-related activities in the jail.
  • Provides direct clinical care to clients, including: assessments, crisis intervention, and case management.
  • Conducts quality improvement activities including: ongoing review of paper/electronic records, individual and group supervision, training and performance evaluation.
  • Assesses needs and supervises provision of SUD programming and services within the jail, including group and individual services, care coordination, including linkage to treatment resources in the community, and Medication Assisted Treatment program support services.
  • Provides clinical training to staff.
  • Tracks and collects data and prepares reports.
  • Provides coverage in the absence of the Team Leader.
  • Plans, organizes and approves the work of the Team, including prioritization of services based on ethical guidelines, and use of evidence-based practices under the general direction of the Team Leader.
  • Assists Team Leader in identifying program and team needs and in implementing new programing or models.
  • Assists in the hiring/orientation of new staff.
  • Approves schedule, leave and timecards as directed.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a leader that has demonstrated their ability to plan and supervise the work of others. A therapist with experience using psychotherapy techniques in mental health practice and substance use disorder treatment programs having a thorough knowledge of abnormal psychology and of individual and group behaviors. A background that demonstrates a strong skillset in psychological assessment and diagnosis where a casework and group work philosophy was applied. They can establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients struggling with addiction/dual diagnosis and patient’s family members, collect and organize data, prepare reports, and apply measures to assess program effectiveness.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Each applicant must have a master’s degree in Human Services; two years post-graduate work experience in providing direct clinical services to clients having psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders; at least two years post-master's experience providing diagnostic evaluations, assessments, and crisis intervention. Licensed in Virginia as an LCSW, LPC, LSATP, or Clinical Psychologist OR is license eligible (has completed all required education and supervision as required by applicable board) as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP), or Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; if license eligible, the employee must obtain Virginia license at the first available opportunity, but no later than one year after appointment. Good driving record/background check; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Preferred Qualifications

A preferred candidate would be licensed as a Clinical Psychologist, LCSW, LPC, or LSATP with two-years of experience in a jail -based setting, where you provided crisis intervention, risk assessment, diagnosis, as well as individual and group substance use disorder treatment. In addition, you would have one year of supervisory experience. Fluent and Bilingual in both English and Spanish.

Some positions require drug testing, and verification of driver's license and education/certifications.
