Assistant Residential Services Coordinator

An Overview
As a member of the Residential Support Team, The Assistant Residential Services Coordinator has direct oversight of the Seminary, Grayson, Linden, Taylor Run and Bellefonte programs. These programs serve individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability (DD). The Assistant Residential Coordinator will provide supervision, guidance, assistance and training to Residential Program Managers and Direct Support Professionals. The Assistant Residential Coordinator monitors group homes and apartments for compliance with licensure, accreditation and certification standards and will perform duties within the framework of Department Policy, City of Alexandria Administrative Regulations, State Regulations, Human Rights guidelines, and applicable State Policies/Guidelines and best practices. Must be available to work varying shifts, including evenings, overnights, and weekends.

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of developmental disability and mental illness and the principles of normalization, community integration, person centered thinking and self-determination; thorough knowledge of State, Departmental and best practice models of group home standards or the ability to acquire such knowledge; ability to provide quality supervision, guidance, assistance, and training to residential services staff; ability to implement and monitor Federal and State standards for quality assurance compliance; ability to enter documentation into an electronic client record; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with subordinates, peers and members of the public, both verbally and in writing; ability to assist in developing and implementing program policies, procedures, and plans.
The Opportunity
- Provides direct supervision and guidance to residential program managers and residential counselors.
- Conducts announced and unannounced home and apartment inspections.
- Conducts quality improvement activities, including record review, individual and group supervision, training, and program evaluation through the Comprehensive Review process.
- Ensures that records of group homes, apartments and supportive living programs meet licensure, certifications, and accreditation standards.
- Interprets and implements Federal, State, City, Department and any other regulations.
- Screens, interviews and makes recommendations for hire of DD residential staff.
- Completes annual performance evaluations of those directly supervised.
- Reviews, recommends and modifies evaluations of residential staff as needed.
- Participates in Residential Screening and Safety committee meetings.
- Acts as a liaison with the Facility Manager regarding maintenance and repair work necessary in homes and apartments.
- Monitors schedules to ensure that facilities are covered to adequately meet individuals’ needs and monitors overtime use in assigned programs.
- May participate in interdisciplinary team meetings concerning residents in homes and apartments.
- Participates in weekend on-call supervisory responsibilities, and performs as residential staff during emergencies or periods of staff shortages.
- Performs related work as required.
About the Department
The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders.
Four Year College Degree; At least a Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field with three years of supervisory experience and three years experience working in Mental Health (MH), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), or Substance Abuse (SA) Residential field. Also, individual should meet the eligibility requirements for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP), Qualified Mental Health Professional - Adult (QMHP-A).
At least five years of supervisory experience in the field of residential services supporting individuals with an intellectual disability or developmental disability. Individual must have excellent organizational skills and strong analytical skills. Individual will have at least 6-12 months of experience with data analysis and program evaluation. Individual must have knowledge of current trends in the field of DD Residential Services. Ability to work evenings/weekends when required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: FBI/Federal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; drug testing; and driver’s license.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 9:00AM – 5:30PM, weekends as needed. As an Essential Employee, staff will be expected to be at work during weekends, holidays, or inclement weather if they have been scheduled.
Salary : $65,853 - $88,210
