Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of monitoring work for the City of Allentown Park areas, safeguarding equipment and facilities against possible loss or damage from theft, vandalism or other causes. The Field Ranger is required to provide the public with a variety of information about a specific park area and other park and recreation facilities and solve day-to-day problems without immediate supervision.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of the appropriate Parks & Recreation supervisory staff.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors park areas for damage to equipment and facilities.
Provides analysis and verification of field and court reservations for accuracy.
Monitors the use of alcohol and amplified music at parks and facilities to ensure compliance with City regulations and Ordinances.
Inspects fields, courts, pavilions, and picnic groves for unsafe conditions and possible routine maintenance that needs to be completed.
Contacts Police Department during emergencies.
Cleans area using a broom, mop, or other appropriate tool as may be required.
Sets-up or removes folding tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones or similar objects.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
Direct traffic as may be required from time to time.
Performs related work as may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A. High school diploma or GED; and
B. One year experience with public relations
C. Equivalent combination of related education and experience
D. Must have a valid PA driver's license
E. First Aid and CPR Certification, preferred
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A. Ability to learn departmental regulations, City Ordinances and State statutes pertaining to municipal parks.
B. Ability to operate radio communication equipment.
C. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
D. Ability to verbally communicate with other City employees, customers, clients, or the public using a radio or telephone, face-to-face, or group setting.
E. Ability to understand written material and learn job-related material through both oral instruction and observation, and structured lecture and reading.
F. Ability to work cooperatively with others and deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner to provide exceptional customer service to residents.
G. Ability to work independently.
H. Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.
I. Bilingual preferred.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Requires intensive daily use of City vehicle, hand tools such as hammer, saw, screwdriver or similar tools, other tools that may be required to perform the essential functions of the job.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
