Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

GENERAL PURPOSE
Oversees and is responsible for a group of participants ages 7-15 at an assigned site for the Allentown Summer Program. Supervises, facilitates and engages with the participants through a variety of recreational activities including, but not limited to, athletic activities, arts and crafts and specific Romper Day program requirements (such as: teaching dances, games and drills).
SUPERVISION
Works under the supervision of the assigned lead instructor, direct playground supervisor, summer playground director and the Recreation Program Specialist.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises participants between ages 7-15.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
" Educates and engages with participants while enforcing program rules, policies and procedures.
" Recognizes and alerts chain of command of issue related to, but not limited to, safety and well-being, inappropriate behaviors and parental concerns.
" Works closely with other instructors and supervisory staff to best facilitate program activities and execution of overall programming.
" Develops, directs and facilitates recreational activities and field trips per program guidelines and initiates opportunities for interaction and engagement amongst staff and participants.
" Teaches and leads the required Romper Day dances, games and drills with energy and enthusiasm to ensure participants are prepared for the culminating event.
" Supervises all assigned aspects of the day including, but not limited to, daily programming, attendance, meals and inspection/clean-up of playground and facilities.
" Cares and accounts for all equipment supplied by the Parks and Recreation department.
" Meets attendance requirements of the program (Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-3:30 PM), including all orientation requirements, required trainings and weekly staff meetings.
" Completes and effectively communicates daily attendance and lunch attendance as required.
" Completes end-of-year surveys and employee performance reviews as requested by supervisory staff.
" Provides quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to participants.
" Performs other work duties as assigned related to the scope of work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience:
A. Enrolled in high school and/or post-secondary education, or
B. Have related experience and/or career in fields of study that may include Parks & Recreation, Education, Social Work, Counseling or another similar field, preferred

A. Ability to exercise strong customer service skills.
B. Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
C. Ability to work and engage independently or as part of a team.
D. Ability to keep and organize detailed records.
E. Ability to exercise patience, self-control and positivity.
F. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with program participants.
G. Interact effectively with others and exercise sound judgement and flexibility.
H. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
I. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
J. Successful completion of pre-season on-line training video course.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Requires intensive daily use of sports equipment and arts and craft supplies.

Must have stamina to occasionally stand and walk for a minimum of six (6) hours.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
